I am Professor in the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the University of California, Irvine.

I work in formal epistemology, decision theory, and the philosophy of mathematics. Much of my recent thinking is about analogies between individual and collective decision making, with lessons to be drawn in both directions.

Before Irvine

I got my PhD from the Group in Logic and the Methodology of Science at UC Berkeley in 2008.

I was a post-doctoral fellow in the Philosophy Department of the Research School of Social Sciences at the Australian National University in 2008 and 2009, assistant professor in the Philosophy Department at the University of Southern California from 2009 to 2014, and associate professor and then professor in the Philosophy Department at Texas A&M University from 2014 to 2023.

I have taught many times at Canada/USA Mathcamp, and was Academic Coordinator there in the summer of 2010.

Students and family

Former PhD students:

• Justin Dallmann (PhD USC, 2015) is now a data scientist with the City of Winnipeg
• Sean Conte (PhD Texas A&M, 2023) is now Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the Community College of Denver.

My partner Matthew Sheldon is in the Chemistry department at UC Irvine, where his group works on optical energy conversion in nanoscale materials.

My brother David Easwaran is an intellectual property lawyer at K&L Gates.
